Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy which is used for treatment of a wide range of medical conditions. Osteopaths use manipulation techniques to improve flexibility, joint range of motion and to decrease levels of pain. Typically, this will be followed by rehabilitation exercises to be performed at home to help you manage your own injury.
Osteopaths look at a variety of factors that may be predisposing symptoms. Commonly called the biopsychosocial approach - this approach looks to identify lifestyle issues such as poor sleep hygiene, an overactive nervous system (stress) and work/social related influences. These are all examples of how your body/system may amplify pain and exacerbate any current symptoms.
No one patient is the same and should be treated as such and so adopting this all-encompassing approach helps to provide a framework to get you injury free in the most efficient way.
